About Me:

Hello and welcome to my Professional Teaching Portfolio. My name is Sara Morrocu and I’m currently in my 1st year of studying a postgraduate degree in Masters of Teaching (Primary). I knew that I wanted to be a primary school teacher from a young age. As part of a careers development program, year ten students were encouraged to complete work experience in the field in which they believed they wanted to pursue a career in- I chose a primary school. I thoroughly enjoyed my 2 week experience at the local primary school and truly believed that the school environment was where I belonged, career wise. After completing my Higher School Certificate and learning more about possible career paths, I became a little overwhelmed with the amount of options, this made me question myself about whether teaching was what I really wanted to pursue. I decided to apply for a Bachelor of Arts degree at ACU, knowing that it was a degree that would undoubtedly prepare me for a variety of careers and professions, and hence serve useful and valid in whatever career choice I would make. During my first year of studying BA I enrolled myself into education units as I always thought- ‘just in case’. I spent a lot of my time researching careers, yet my heart kept telling me that it was primary school teaching that I wanted to do. By the end of the first year of BA I was definite that I wanted to study primary education. I decided to continue with and complete my Bachelor of Arts degree, not only because it is useful to have but also because I am one who likes to be challenged and lives by the motto ‘the true challenge lies in acting on and completing a job started’. As part of my Bachelor of Arts degree I completed 3 weeks of community service at a child care centre, I found that I particularly liked working with the older children aged 4-5, this confirmed my love of working with children and reassured me that I had made the right choice in choosing primary school teaching as a future career path. In 2008 I completed my Bachelor of arts degree, majoring in Theology and minoring in English and Literature, Art History and Education. I am currently in my second semester of Masters of Teaching (Primary) and am so far enjoying it.  I have so far completed one practicum experience with a stage one class and am currently completing my second with a stage 3 class. I have enjoyed every minute of working with the kids and in helping to make a difference to their learning experiences and development. My genuine passion and interest in working with the children only reinforces my belief that teaching is the right career for me, as well as motivating me to do my best and to find a suitable position in a school that will allow me to share my passion, interests and knowledge with the students. I look forward to documenting my professional growth and development on this blog, and thank you for sharing this journey with me.
